SALERNO WOOD FIRED PIZZA & TAPHOUSE

July 16, 2019

Lexington, Virginia is well known for its historical significance.  It’s the home of the prestigious Virginia Military Institute, which was raided by Union General, David Hunter, during the Civil War.  Also, Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson are buried there.  Despite its historical notoriety, however, Lexington is still a small town today.  Though it is the location for two major universities, the local population live the life of rural America.
With a modest scattering of restaurants, Lexington’s non-chain Italian offerings, for many years, have been three mom-and-pop pizzerias that, until last year, remained relatively similar to one another.  A fact that was noted by Jason Harris, owner of Salerno. He wanted to set his restaurant apart from his competitors in a modern, more metropolitan way that would appeal to the college crowd and tourists, as well as locals who were ready for something new and exciting.
In March of 2018, Salerno unveiled a complete makeover that included a sharp and trendy new industrial interior.  They also had an authentic, wood-fired oven shipped all the way from Italy, so they could offer the only wood-fired pizza in Rockbridge County!
The all-new Salerno Wood Fired Pizza & Taphouse also installed Shenandoah Valley’s only pour-your-own beer wall!  Salerno’s thirty taps are the most you’ll find in one establishment in the whole of Rockbridge County.  The wall allows of-age customers to walk right up and pour their own beer from an assortment of taps that feature many craft-brewed, Virginia beers!
Salerno is very much embracing the growing popularity of craft beer.  The college crowd, the tourists, and even the locals are loving it.  Best of all, Salerno is making it easy and affordable to sample the different beers to find your favorites!  At Salerno, you pay by the ounce.  You can sample a single ounce, of many beers to find the one you’d like to pour in full measure.
Harris says the tap offerings rotate regularly, so there is always something new to try.  Many favorites from the region’s best-loved breweries are sure to be found on the wall at Salerno.  And coming in August or September will be a special beer from Three Notch’d Brewery in Roanoke that will only be distributed to Salerno Wood Fired Pizza & Taphouse.
The On Tap Beer Menu of the Salerno website is updated automatically when new beers are installed, so it’s always current.  Check it out at salernolex.com.  Hover over Our Menu and select On Tap Beer menu from the drop down.
And speaking of menus…you have to have something to eat with all those delicious brews!  Salerno’s menu features wood-fired pizzas and calzones, sandwiches and burgers, pasta, soups, salads, desserts, sides, and even a kids menu!  All these mouthwatering foods are not only available for dine in and delivery, but Salerno’s also offers catering and on-site parties!
In addition to all the beer for your thirst and food for your body, you can also find food for the soul at Salerno Wood Fired Pizza & Taphouse.  On a regular, rotating schedule, Salerno features live music, karaoke, and DJs!  The entertainment schedule is posted to Instagram at salernolex.
